Wikipedia:Welcoming committee/Standard user greeting
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Below are some sample greetings that you can cut-and-paste onto new users' talk pages. Replace any $VARIABLES with the correct text. Be sure to place greetings on each user's talk page, and not his user page, so that he will get the "You have new messages" alert notice. One can also use templates for the same purpose.

Unfortunately, we can't keep the articles you created on $PAGE1 and $PAGE2, because they violate another person's copyright. We aren't legally allowed to directly take other people's work; however, it is fine to ''research'' topics on other sites. See [[Wikipedia:Copyrights]] for details. But don't get discouraged – try writing your own $SUBJECT articles! For help on writing articles, you can check out the [[Wikipedia:FAQ|FAQs]], especially on [[Wikipedia:Editing FAQ|contributing]] and [[Wikipedia:Editing FAQ|editing]]. There's a lot to know, but one of the [[Wikipedia:Why Wikipedia is so great|cool things about Wikipedia]] is that others will edit ''your'' contributions to make them better! Yours, ~~~~ [edit] TipsThis is a list of suggested tips that can be added to any of the above messages. *You can sign your name using three tildes, like <nowiki>~~~. If you use four, you can add a datestamp too. Five provides the datestamp only.
