Is there any reason to have people type in their user name here...why not fill in that field automatically? Antonrojo 17:12, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
- Is there even a way to fill in the poster's name automatically? --AySz88^-^ 17:56, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
The fact that this template "breaks" if the poster does not specify his/her username is not a good idea, especially since the more familiar {{welcome}} does not require the poster's username. It's too easy for someone not aware of this to leave a broken welcome message. I'll see if I can fix it with #if.--Srleffler 04:42, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
- OK. I think I fixed it. Now, the template will provide a link to the poster's talk page if the poster specifies a username. If the username is not specified, the template just says "...on my Talk page..." without making a link.--Srleffler 05:04, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Problem with enforced substitution
The enforced substitution on this article seems to be causing problems over at Wikipedia:Template_messages/User_talk_namespace#Welcoming_new_users, where an example of the template is given (which doesn't want to be subst'd, so that the latest updates are shown on that page). I don't know if it's possible, but it might be best to restrict the non-subst'd message to the User_talk namespace only. Mike Peel 21:30, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Section Heading?
- Any thoughts on making the first Welcome! into a section heading? This way as any future comments are added to new sections, the TOC would be above the big honking welcome ;) — MrDolomite | Talk 03:55, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
- I don't like section headings in templates. There's no reason people can't type the headings on their own, when appropriate. NickelShoe (Talk) 03:13, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
- Oops. I didn't realize there was a discussion about this. I changed it, but if you want to change it back, go ahead. Chris53516 16:55, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- I support converting it to a heading. Otherwise as talk pages fill up the Welcome section tends to get isolated above the Table of Contents. Adding your own section heading before substing this template isn't a good solution because it leaves an ugly "double header" effect. Gwernol 15:04, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
- I disagree, I find it looks better. It doesn't have a lead, so it is just an automatic heading. I think it looks better as a "header" to the page (for new users, until they make one of their own) without a header. Cbrown1023 21:18, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] T
Why is the t in talk page capitalised? Cbrown1023 20:34, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- I don't think this is appropriate use of the {{helpme}} template. I can't answer your question, but I will uncapitalise the T. jd || talk || 20:05, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
