Talk:Welsh Kilt
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I've removed the following unsourced claim from the article:
- Some think that the Scots invented kilts but it was infact the Chinese who first invented tartan over 3000 years ago. Kilts were worn by all the celtic nations, the Scots, the Irish, Welsh, Manx, Cornish and Bretons.
There is some debate as to the origins of the kilt, and while the Chinese did indeed have tartan-like fabric many years ago, the kilt was developed in the scottish highlands & isles, by Norse, Irish, or Scots. Tartans, especially checked patterns, were also noted to be used by ancient Gauls, in the form of pants (much like Scottish trews) and shawls. Canæn 01:55, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] History
I think there should be more on historical Welsh kilts, as the article says "kilts (or cilts - in Welsh) are once again being worn by Welshmen", implying they used to be worn before. When and why were they, and why did they fall out of fashion? --Awiseman 16:25, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] St David's Tartan
I think that article should be merged here, the information is virtually identical. --Awiseman 16:28, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
