Formed over 60 years ago, WECB maintains the status of a free-form and non-commercial carrier current radio station at Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts. Because the station is not a traditional FM station, but rather a carrier current station. The legal call letters of WECB refer to a FM station in Wisconsin.

WECB is completely student run with the exception of a faculty advisor who oversees all activities that go on at the station, but does not have administrative powers over it. WECB broadcasting is found online at it's website, on closed-circuit campus television (channel 65) and is rumored to be available at 99.9 fm in the vicinity of Boylston Street.

The origins of WECB began over 60 years ago, when Emerson College obtained a surplus army AM transmitter. The station broadcasted from the basement of the 132-134 Beacon Street dormitory, and drew in success that included legitimate commercials, news programming and a station-owned van. In 1983-1984, WECB was scheduled for demolition without reconstruction as part of the Mass Comm. 1.6M renovation project.

Carol Kamerschen, Greg Weremey and Russ Weisenbacher were instrumental in fighting the board of trustees and allowing Greg and Russ to design and build the new studios at 126 Beacon St. (Formerly 130 Beacon 4th floor). [1] This status ended with the christening of a new Emerson facility known as the Ansin Building in 1998 that featured a full studio for the more public-interest station WERS, and WECB was left unhoused. After student concern, WECB was resurrected in a smaller studio amongst WERS. WECB, while small, is a prominent organization on the Emerson Campus providing live-DJing, Boston-area artists concerts, and quality niche programming.
