[edit] Recipes

I am curious about why adding a recipe is not acceptable. If I look up scones for example - I think finding a scone recipe would be useful - same as doughnuts, bread, shepherd's pie and so on. A single example recipe on any food item would be an excellent section. Why is this not acceptable?

Thanks.

Hi, regarding the "no recipes" rule, this has been quite a contentious guideline. See the discussions here and here for an overview of the arguments for and against. The current practice is to move recipes to Wikibooks:Cookbook. Regards. --Muchness 04:27, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] External links

Please stop adding commercial or personal-website links to Wikipedia. It is considered spamming, and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising. Thanks. OhNoitsJamie Talk 23:23, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

Sorry I disagree with you. You are wrong so the link goes back unless *other* folks decide otherwise. Webchat

I notice that much of your contribution history consists of adding external links. There is nothing notable about this particular site (or most of the links you've added) that merit inclusion under WP:EL policies. OhNoitsJamie Talk 00:24, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Thankyou - I have added to the discussion area about this. I spend about 10 hours a day putting together all the information I can on Peak Oil, Global Warming, Solar Power and so on. I do not make money from this. Nor is it a hobby. It's because it needs reporting. The sites I create have up-to-the date info on environmental matters. New info that has not made it here yet. On the whole Wikipedians seem to agree. But. like I said, I have left a comment for discussion by other wikipedians about this. Webchat 00:28, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

You are encouraged to add content to Wikipedia versus canvasing it with external links to ad-supported sites. OhNoitsJamie Talk 00:31, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Half the Internet uses Google ads and they mostly make little money. In my experience and others I talk to you might make a dolar a day or $30 a month at the most. That pays for the cost of the server and bandwidth. Taking the google strip from the bottom just to not be 'ad supported' is ridiculous. Google is allowing many good sites to keep going. Anyway, I have seen errors and omissions in quite a few Wikipedia articles - maybe I'll go and fix them when I have time while I wait to see if anyone else discusses the links here. Webchat 00:37, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Please do not add commercial links or links to your own private websites to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or a mere collection of external links. You are, however, encouraged to add content instead of links to the encyclopedia. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. Thankyou vsmith - I already stated that I have left this link open to discussion, and not replaced it. I prefer to win you over by weight of argument and the benefit of the actual site rather than try to wear anyone down by replacing the link all the time. Webchat 00:42, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

I appreciate your willingness to rationally discuss Wikipedia policies; that's the hallmark of the Wikipedia community. Admittedly, not all of the policies are black and white, and are always open to discussion. Happy editing, OhNoitsJamie Talk 03:48, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
