Hello, my name is Max.

I'm from Berlin, Old Europe.

On my birthday the House of Commons of the United Kingdom voted against the re-introduction of the death penalty. Go figure.

I'm a law student, and I am very proud of the good shape the law articles in the German Wikipedia are in. I'm fond of civil law (i.e. post-Code Civil), constitutional law (Marbury v. Madison et al.) and legal sociology and philosophy (especially the work of Gustav Radbruch and questions of legal positivism). The content of the articles here that usually refer to common law is mostly unfamiliar to me and so I haven't edited any of them, with the notable exception of the internationally focused article on murder.

I usually just do copyedits and correct language problems here at the English Wikipedia. Right now I like to randomly open the last fifty "Recent changes" through the RSS feed and edit away (I use text-to-speech software because I hate to read on screen). Should I make any mistakes myself, please steamroll over my edits and make your own.

My interests are scattered to say the least. Most of all I enjoy saying things about geography, the recent history of Germany (especially the GDR), Berlin-related stuff, the Tour de France, elections, rock'n'roll, self-reference, populism, the Paralympics, German language, the Oxford comma, (just kidding) and the Arab-Israeli conflict. My eternal unanswered love belongs to Ivrit, which I can't say I speak on a 1 level. I'll take another course next year, that should improve things. I love linguistics and grammar, but don't have much rigorous knowledge about it myself.

I try to always be polite and correct any non-NPOV I spot, against my political leaning if need be. I'm an inclusionist (in favour of making every editor get a username though). I'm for outsourcing articles, rather than merging them. I am against anglocentrism in the Wikipedia, and therefore, I believe that the country of Georgia, as an (according to international law) entity of higher rank, should get the pure Georgia place, with the state of the same name listed as state. I think that renaming the disambiguation pages would be a good idea, because the word really is long-winded, I am not however familiar with the technicalities of such a venture.

I believe that 1911 Encyclopaedia Britannica text does not belong in articles about extant cities (I found it hard to edit for instance the Angermünde article (I know I wasn't logged in) without deleting it in its entirety first). I'm also committed to finding a reasonable way of dealing with the articles about former German places in what is now Poland, although I didn't like the style of debate at times. I'm usually in favour of putting the Polish, Czech or Russian name. I also don't like obvious advertisement for places, which often occurs in German Wikipedia small town articles. I'm a sucker for interesting style. I hate it when someone writes "so, you can see that..." anywhere. And please, use complete sentences and don't omit pronouns, just because you've seen it this way in other encyclopaedias. I have begun editing Berlin U-Bahn station articles, but soon most stations got layouts qui inter se differunt, and so I left it there. I have seen some good other ones though.

I also dislike articles that don't have a first sentence as follows: "X is an (insert adjective here) Y in/of (insert reference here).", as well as articles that don't provide any reference at all, because they were part of a series of edits, the line of thought is "Well, they should know what I'm talking about, I already said it in the last article I did.". I mostly have only a blurred idea what they may be talking about.

I think the first edit I did, way back in January, 2004, was the creation of Wheelchair Tennis, my sport, the article has up to now remained unchanged in its essence (no other tennis nerds out there?).

I also love Wiktionary. And the #Wikipedia chat room is my favourite hangout on the internet.

You may do whatever tickles your fancy with my work, unless you want to sell something with it (which is not bloody likely). I'm not one to walk into a shower trying hard not to get wet. So, I accept any license you care to shovel at me (thanks to Bill Bryson for that wording). Also, feel free to tastefully vandalize this page.
