We Don't Need to Whisper is the debut album of Angels and Airwaves. It was released on May 20, 2006 in Australia, on May 22, 2006 in the UK, and on May 23, 2006 in North America.
We Don't Need To Whisper debuted at #8 in the ARIA, and #6 in the UK Album charts. The album drew mixed reactions from critics, with a Metacritic average of 53.[1]
We Don't Need to Whisper' was certified gold in Canada (50,000 copies) in 3 days, and sold over 127,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release. A large number of fans pre-ordered the album, which may explain the high debut sales.
As of 18 March 2007, the album has sold over 500,000 copies in the US alone.[2]

The full We Don't Need to Whisper album leaked on the Internet on April 11, 2006. DeLonge has stated that he leaked the album himself so fans would be able to sing along at shows. His email was not hacked, as some believe.
The commercially released version of the album has several differences from the leaked version of the album, which hit the Internet more than a month before its official release date. Notable changes include an extra guitar part after the first chorus of "Valkyrie Missile," a different mix for "It Hurts," and an added final note at the end of "Start the Machine." Also, the intro in the track "The Adventure" has been shortened.

- The album was nominated for an MTV Video Music Award for Best Effects and Best Editing for "The Adventure" music video, and the band was nominated for Best New Artist.[citation needed]
- The band won the Woodie of the Year Award (best album), at the 2006 Woodie Awards, an award ceremony based on votes from students across North America.
- "The Adventure" won the award for Song of the Year at the 2006 San Diego Awards.
- The album reached as high as #8 on the ARIA and #4 on the Billboard 200 chart.

- Although lead singer Tom DeLonge initially stated that the album would run from 60 to 75 minutes, the final version is just under 50 minutes in length.
- The album booklet features screen shots from the A
VA Movie. - The album cover was stated by Tom to represent "the infinite potential of a human being."
- CDs that were pre-ordered had a bonus autographed booklet signed by the band members.
- According to the official website, Tom DeLonge suggets to listen to the album in a dark room, with a candle as the only light.
- Although it contains 3 swear words, and no other objectional content, even less than any blink album, it was released with a Parental Advisory label.
