WCMU-TV, channel 14, a.k.a CMU Public Television, is a PBS television member for northern Michigan. While Mount Pleasant is located in the Flint / Saginaw / Bay City market, most of its transmitters are located in the Cadillac, Traverse City, Alpena and Big Rapids areas. The station's owner and operator is Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, which established the main transmitter, WCMU-TV ch.14, on March 29, 1967.
The station also has a number of repeater transmitters throughout Northern Michigan:
- Alpena - 6 (WCML) (on air November 21, 1975)
- Cadillac - 27 (WCMV) (on air September 7, 1984)
- Leland - 69 (W69AV)
- Manistee - 21 (WCMW) (on air September 7, 1984)
- Traverse City - 46 (W46AD)
On cable, WCMU can be seen on Charter's systems in the Tri-Cities (except Saginaw) on channel 12, and Traverse City-Cadillac and Alpena on channel 6. It is not seen on Charter systems in Saginaw or Sault Ste. Marie, or on Comcast's system in Flint.
