[edit] History
WCJB signed on April 5, 1971 as an NBC affiliate, owned by William E. Minshall. Its callsign bears the first initials of his family members -- Casey, Jean, and himself, "Bill".
In 1973, just two years after its first broadcast, WCJB switched its affiliation from NBC to ABC.
In 1977, WCJB was sold to Diversified Communications, a company based in Portland, Maine that specialises in trade publications, and is the owner of Bangor, Maine's WABI-TV.
In 2001, WCJB began a digital signal on channel 16.
Until July 2006, WCJB was the only ABC affiliate seen on the Cox Cable system in Ocala, since WCJB had exclusivity on that system for ABC programming, keeping co-owned, home-market WFTV from Orlando off that system. In July 2006, Cox received the green light to pick up WFTV's standard and high-definition feeds in Ocala, on cable channel 9 (standard feed) and channel 729 (HD feed).
WFTV and WCJB are also both seen on Bright House in Belleview and unincorporated Marion County.
In September 2006, WCJB began to air programming from the new CW television network on its DT2 subchannel which is known as The CW Gainesville. WCJB DT2 offers The Daily Buzz newscast shown weekdays 6-9 AM.
