Wazirabad

Wazirabad (Urdu: وزیر آباد) is a town located in Gujranwala District, Punjab, Pakistan. Wazirabad is situated on the banks of the Chenab River nearly 100km north of Lahore.

Wazirabad has some main villages: Saroki, Sohdra, wanjowali,Rasol Nagar, Kailianwala, Kialasike, Alipur, Kotkhizari, Ahmad Nagar and Pathanky.

Total population of city is approximately 95,000[1]. There are 264 surrounding villages with 600,000 people.

Wazirabad is an important railway junction on the main line of the north-western railway line of Pakistan Railways. Wazirabad is one of the biggest railway junction linking Faislabad, Sialkot, to main railway line from Peshawar to Karachi.

Wazirabad is producing fine and export quality rice. Especially, villages of Wazirabad Tehsil such as khaway wali, Chak Sada Cheema, Hakeem Derveshkay, Kaylaskay Cheema,Rasool Nagar, Ali Pur Chatta, Manchar Chatta, Mandiala Chatta, and Saloke Chatta are famous for this crop. Further, these villages are also sharing major part in producing sugar cane.The city is also famous for its leather products.Besides this,tehsil Wazirabad is also famous for its export quality cutlary goods. Local industry includes cutlery and surgical instrument manufacturing.

Wazirabad is also known due to Maulana Zafar Ali Khan, who was editor of Zimidar newspaper at the time of British rule. He also played a role in the freedom movement against the British government in India. He is buried in karmadab Wazirabad. Gujranwala was named because of the majority of Gujjars (an elite caste,a martial race) in the surrounding villages. Gujjars had been a vital part of freedom movements starting from 1857 until the Independence of the state of Pakistan. One of the famous cases on gujjar freedom movement was "Muqadama-e-Qazi Kot" . Qazi Kot is a village near Kelaske that belongs to the Qazi family which has been very influential before and after the independence of Pakistan. Castes of Jatt are Cheema, Chatha, Warriach, and Gondal. Jatt families of Wazirabad are famous in Punjab. Most of Jatt's represented National Assembly as well as provincial Assembly. Gujranwala is producing high quality wheat to Pakistan. They are producing export quality rice in their villages. Sugar cane is also 3rd largest crop of this area. All Jatt's are famous not only in agricultural field but also in political setup of Pakistan.
