Wayne Township, Clinton County, Ohio

Wayne Township, one of thirteen townships in Clinton County, Ohio, United States, is located in the eastern central part of the county along the border with Fayette and Highland Counties. In 2000, the population was 737 up from 681 in 1990, the second least populous township, ahead only of Wilson. The entire township lies in the Virginia Military District and has an area of 19,834 acres (80 km²). It was named in honor of General "Mad Anthony" Wayne and is one of nineteen Wayne Townships in Ohio.
It was erected in 1837 by the Clinton County Commissioners from parts of Green and Richland Townships.
The township is bordered on the southeast by Penn Township in Highland County, on the southwest by Green Township, on the northwest by Union Township, on the north by Richland Township, and on the east by Green Township in Fayette County and Concord Township in Highland County.
The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1. Two are elected in the year after the presidential election and one is elected in the year before it. There is also an elected township clerk, who serves a four-year term beginning on April 1 of the year after the election, which is held in November of the year before the presidential election. Vacancies in the clerkship or on the board of trustees are filled by the remaining trustees.
Major roads are State Routes 72 and 729.
