Wayne Godwin is a young hooker who started his career with Castleford Tigers. He turned pro in 2002 and played with the Tigers until the end of 2004, making over 60 appearances. Wayne signed a two-year deal with Wigan after Castleford's relegation at the end of Super League IX. Wayne was called into the England A squad for the 2004 European Nations cup. Off the field Wayne became something of a celebrity in 2003 after his appearance on Channel 4's popular 'fly on the wall' TV show, The Salon. Godwin made over 30 appearances for Wigan Warriors mainly as a subsitute, he usually played the last 20 minutes of the first half and the first 20 minutes of the second half. The Wigan Warriors website said: "Honest hard working player who gives his all every time he wears the club shirt, is a great tackler and has a good turn of pace."

After months of rumours and speculation it was confirmed on 2nd September 2006 that Wayne Godwin had signed for Hull FC on a two year contract for the 2007 season. On the news that Godwin would be leaving Wigan the Wigan Chairman Maurice Lindsay said, "Its really sad news for the club. We signed Wayne from Castleford as a 22 year old because we admired his enthusiasm and appetite for the game and he has been a great success for us. He has been a marvelous signing for us even though he has had to wait for his chance behind firstly Terry Newton and then Mickey Higham. I believe he received an offer from Hull that he simply could not turn down and no one can blame him for accepting it. Fortunately for the club Mickey Higham has hit top form as he proved against Bradford Bulls last night. Mickey is also a young player with a good career ahead of him and we have an exciting prospect coming through the ranks in Michael McIlorum."The strict salary cap regulations now mean that clubs are often forced to lose players they would normally like to keep. This is another example but I still hope that Wayne goes on to have a great career as he deserves it. He always had a smile on his face and has been great for team spirit, we wish him well."
