3/4 Semi Rural, and 1/4 Urban Development. Contains some of Hartfield Park, and extends from Crystal Brook Rd to Roe Hwy. Major Transport Routes thru the suburb are Welshpool Rd, Hale Rd, Tonkin Hwy and Roe Hwys.

Bus routes are 287 288 787 788 to and from the city via Hartfield Park, 294 to Cannington or Midland via Hale Rd and 283 to and from Kalamunda and the city via Welshpool Rd.

Nearest train station is Kenwick on the Armadale Line

Once was all agricultural farm land containing Poultry farms, Equestrian Studs, Agistment paddocks, Horticulural Nurseries, Pet Kennels, Hobby farms and Cattle Breeders, half of the suburb toward the Forrestfield side has been rezoned as Urban Development by the Shire of Kalamunda (cell 9), and is now a hive of activity as land is subdived and houses built. The price of land in cell 9 has subesquently risen exponetially. Blocks of 600sm were originally selling for $50K AUD in St John Estate in 1999. In 2006 Blocks of 400 sm were selling for >$278K AUD. The rest of the suburb is semi rural with block sizes averaging over 3 hectacres and millionaire mansions Between Cyrstal Brook Rd and Lewis Rds.
