[edit] History

The Wattendorf area has been settled for a long time. It had already been settled by the Linear Pottery culture between 3000 and 1800 years before Christ.

Wattendorf was first documented in 1180, when the town was in the possession of the Counts of the Duchy of Merania. From 1260 to 1274, it was owned by the Counts of Truhendingen. They in turn gave the Wattendorf estate in 1274 as a gift to the Cistercians at Langheim, to whom it belonged until the Secularization of 1803.

The current municipality of Wattendorf lies on a Jurassic rise in the eastern part of the Bamberg District.
