Watertown High School, or WHS, is the only public high school in Watertown, South Dakota. The school is notable as it was the first school in the state in which every student and teacher was issued a laptop computer.
[edit] Laptop program
WHS first started their own laptop program beginning with the 2003-2004 school year. Starting in 2006, WHS became part of the state-sponsored Classroom Connections project, where it was among 20 selected schools in the state to receive funding for laptops for students as well as tablet computers for teachers. As WHS already had laptops for three years prior to becoming part of the state project, new laptops were issued to all students and teachers.
[edit] Native Lore Issues
The Watertown Arrow's homecoming legend, called Ki-Yi, has upset some Native Americans, first among them activist Betty Ann Gross. However, the 90 year old legend is actually quite flattering to the Natives of the area.[citation needed]
