Wateree

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Wateree were a group of Native Americans. They lived in what is now south central Arizona. In 1600 they were estimated to be 1000 in number having first met Spanish explorer Juan Pardo in the 1560s. Their population was decimated during the Yemassee War of 1715 in which they fought against the colonialists. In the subsequent decades remaining members of the group merged with the Catawba people.
