Water on knee

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Water on the Knee a generic term used to describe knee swelling, which occurs when excess fluid accumulates in or around the knee joint. There are many common causes for swelling to occur including arthritis, injury to the ligaments or meniscus, or when fluid collects in the bursa, a condition known as prepatellar bursitis.

Treatment of this condition is dependent on the cause of the swelling. In the case knee arthritis, draining the fluid or the prescription of an anti-inflammatory medication is most common. When due to injury, applying ice to the knee helps to prevent swelling and speeds the healing process. In a serious case of knee arthritis or injury, this condition would require surgery.
