Warwick Conferences
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Warwick Conferences provides conference services using the facilities of the University of Warwick. It is a fully owned subsidiary of the University and was the first venture of its kind by a UK higher education institution. Initially using Halls of Residences and existing academic facilities, Warwick Conferences now has three purpose-built residential training centres on campus available all year round.
Warwick Conferences has meeting rooms, auditoria, exhibition halls and accommodation for events of between 15 to 1,500 delegates.
Warwick Conferences hosts 3,100 events each year with a total of 70,000 delegates and an annual turnover of several million. At the heart of the conference business are the Conference Assistants (CAs), whose job it is to ensure the smooth running of the conferences, from setting up the rooms to operating the audiovisual equipment. Another vital cog in the mechanism is the Foyer Services team, more commonly known as "luggage". As well as their primary tasks of safeguarding delegates' belongings and overseeing the delivery and collection of parcels for conferences, the luggage staff can be called upon to deliver bottled water, trolleys and miscellaneous items of electrical equipment to anywhere on the campus; to direct lost delegates; to provide details of local services, tourist attractions and public transport timetables, as well as general help and advice. The Foyer Services staff are based in the luggage office, which has recently been praised as "a wonderful aspect of the university" with "a lot to offer". It is particularly noted for its Christmas decorations (below), which have become something of a tourist attraction in themselves.
