The world famous Wari Ruins (altitude 2470 m above sea-level) are located near the bustling metropolis of Quinua, Peru. It is just a short bus ride (37 km) from the beautiful oasis of Ayacucho. The Wari Ruins are best reached and can be most appreciated by traveling the 1.3 mile cactus trail through the arid mountains of the Peruvian highlands. The ruins can be viewed in almost the same condition as they were during the days of the powerful Wari empire thanks to the little work and recognition that the Peruvian government has given to them.

It's only fitting that the capital of the once most powerful South American empire is located just 15 km from the site of independence of the entire continent from Spain in the battle of 1824.
