Walter Steffens

Walter Steffens, (b. 31 October 1934) is a German composer specializing in opera. He was a student of Philip Jarnach and has received awards from Hamburg, Berlin and Paris. He has composed noteworthy operas including Under Milkwood based on a poem by Dylan Thomas, The Jew's Beech based on a novel by Annette von Droste-Hülshoff and The Philospher as well as numerous short works based on paintings.
