Walter Campbell

Sir Walter Campbell AC KStJ QC (1921 – 4 September 2004) was a judge on the Supreme Court of Queensland, Chancellor of the University of Queensland, and Governor of Queensland, Australia.

[edit] Early career
Campbell served in the Royal Australian Air Force during World War II.
Campbell was admitted to the Queensland Bar in 1948, practiced as a lawyer, and became a QC in 1960.

On 1 August 1967, Campbell was appointed as a judge on the Supreme Court of Queensland, which is the highest ranking court in the Australian State of Queensland. He was promoted to Chief Justice of the court on 18 February 1982, a position he continued to hold until 7 July 1985 when he became the Governor of Queensland.

Campbell was Chancellor of the University of Queensland from 1977 to 1985.

Campbell was appointed as Governor of Queensland on 7 July 1985. He held this position until 1992.
In 1987 Campbell had to preside over Joh Bjelke-Petersen's last days as Premier of Queensland. This meant approving the sacking of three ministers on November 24, then accepting his resignation on December 1 after being deposed as parliamentary leader of the National Party on November 26.
Campbell was also Governor at the same time as Brisbane hosted Expo '88.
