Wally Jay

Wally Jay (b June 16, 1917) is the founder of Small Circle JuJitsu.

Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, he was a student of Seishiro Okazaki the founder Danzan Ryu from whom he received a Certificate of Mastery on 1948-02-22. He trained under Juan Gomez, and Ken Kawachi (Hawaiian judo champion) in the early 40's. Through his experience, he developed his own system called Small Circle Jujitsu.

He has produced many national, state, and regional judo champions. In 1968, David Quinonez and in 1970 Bradford Burgo both were recipient of the Yamaguchi Award "for their outstanding showing" when they captured the 120 pound crown.

He became good friends with Remy Presas of Modern Arnis, and was known to conduct seminars with both Remy and George Dillman.

Wally Jay is the head instructor of Jay's Jujitsu Studio, which is also known as Island Judo/Jujitsu Club in Alameda, California. Now past the age of 80, he still travels world-wide teaching seminars on Small Circle Jujitsu.

Known nationally and internationally as the founder of Small Circle Jujitsu. He has published two books; Dynamic Ju Jitsu and Small Circle JuJitsu and numerous instructional videos.

He has received many awards in the past which include:

  • Hokka Judo Yudanshakai[1] named him "Northern California Judo Coach of the year".
  • Black Belt Magazine's Instructor of Jujitsu and Man of the Year.
  • He has been featured on the covers of several martial arts magazines.
  • Awarded Honorary Doctorate by the College of Martial Arts Sioux Falls, South Dakota on May 4,1991.
  • Inside Kung Fu magazine named him as one of the 100 most influential martial arts personalities of all times.
  • He has been twice inducted in the Black Belt magazine Hall of Fame.
  • Holds a 10th Degree Black Belt in Jujitsu
  • Holds a 6th Degree Black Belt in Judo
  • Is the founder and Grandmaster of Jujitsu America
  • Is the founder and Grandmaster of Small Circle JujitsuTM International
  • Is the founder and Great Grandmaster of Professor Jay's Small Circle JujitsuTM
