Wallaceburg, Ontario

Wallaceburg is an industrial town (pop. 11,114) located in southwestern Ontario, Canada. Originally a small settlement, it was recognized for its significant contribution to the lumber and boat building industries and strategic location along the banks of the scenic Sydenham River.

The town was founded in 1804 and named after Scotland's national hero, William Wallace. Wallaceburg is home of WAMBO (Wallaceburg Antique Motor and Boat Outing), an annual antique car and boat show that began in the mid-1980s.

In 1998, 23 independent communities were amalgamated with Kent County to create the Municipality of Chatham-Kent as part of the Government of Ontario's mandate to cut costs, streamline procedures and to use all of Wallaceburgs tax dollars to directly benefit Chatham.

Wallaceburg is linked to Chatham, Blenhiem, Sarnia, Ontario and the Blue Water Bridge to the United States by Highway 40.

The Indian reserve of Bkejwanong (commonly referred to as Walpole Island) is adjacent to Wallaceburg.

Blind Eye, a low budget straight to video action film was shot in part in Wallaceburg in late 2005, soon to be released in 2006. Stars Roddy Piper and Levi Oliver. Filming also took place in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. Despite the film's low profile, there has been extensive media coverage in the Wallaceburg media regarding the filming.

In the November 2006 municipal election Tom McGregor and Sheldon Parsons were elected Wallaceburg councillors.
