Walking floor
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Walking floor, a construction of a trailer floor wich makes the automated unloading of different materials possible without raising a bucket. The roof is always metally open and the walls ar made of a rigid material. All kinds of goods is suitable for transport. Garbage, scrap metal, gravel and heavy bigbags are examples of goods transported on walking floor trailers.
The floor is divided into narrow sections wich alternately goes forward and backwards. Every third section is connected to each other and thus making one third moving while two thirds standing still when moving. The whole floor then moves in the direction the driver wishes. When loading and unloading, hydraulics is used to power the floor. The front wall is double and the inner wall is movable with a rubber flap at the bottom extending onto the floor. This makes shure nothing stays behind and almost eliminates sweeping of the floor.
It takes about 5 to 15 minutes to unload a full 13.6 meter trailer so it is a slow process but the benefits are many. You can enter a narrow low gate and dump the load inside a building. With a conventional tipper, that is not possible. It is also possible to handle near full width heavy pallets or unpalleted goods without opening the sides of the trailer.
