From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wakanohana Kanji I (若乃花 幹士, born March 16, 1928) is a former sumo wrestler. He is the sport's 45th Yokozuna.

Wakanohana was the elder brother (by twenty-two years) of the late Takanohana Kenshi and is the uncle of yokozuna Takanohana Koji and Wakanohana Masaru. He won ten tournament championships during his career and at a fighting weight of around 100kg was one of the lightest yokozuna ever.

After retirement he set up his own training stable, Futagoyama stable, which produced a string of top wrestlers. He was also head of the Japan Sumo Association from 1988 to 1992.
