The name of Waitara is in the New Zealand Maori language and the settlements in Australia were named from the township of Waitara, New Zealand. A borough with a population of 6700 people, located in the Taranaki region of the North Island of New Zealand, on the shores of the Waitara River - One of the longest rivers in the region.
