"Wait for You" is a 2007 song by former American Idol contestant Elliott Yamin. It is scheduled to be the first official single from his self-titled album (following the radio-only promotional hit "Movin' On"). "Wait for You" is a slow tempo ballad in which Yamin sings about waiting indefinitely for the one he loves to come back to him. Despite the fact she has left him, he insists he knows she still loves him. It can be streamed at his MySpace [1] and purchased at the U.S. iTunes Store.
The song debuted on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 at number 67.[2]
[edit] Reception
The song received a positive review from Chuck Taylor of Billboard:[3]
“ | Will Elliot Yamin become the 27th "American Idol" finalist to join ranks on a Billboard chart? The beloved season five No. 3 runner-up enters the fray ... with a commanding R&B ballad reminiscent of compadre Mario Vazquez's hit "Gallery." Old-soul midtempo, hand-clapping production from Stargate (Nelly Furtado, Ne-Yo, Rihanna) and rapid-fire, R. Kelly-esque verses adeptly mesh with a muscular, emotive vocal. Considering that Yamin cites Stevie Wonder and Donny Hathaway as influences, the template is hands-down convincing. The singer suffered from a lack of overt star quality on the show, but "Wait for You" boasts amplitude of a radio-ready headliner. Look for a full-length debut March 20. The indie release on Hickory already has finer fragrance than major-label milquetoast debut from Taylor Hicks and frigid urban output from Katharine McPhee. Yamin could well be the ultimate victor. | ” |
[edit] Music video
The music video for the song shows Yamin in a variety of locations reminiscing about his girlfriend who has left him. The video shows Yamin on the beach, in his bedroom, and simply walking on a sidewalk picturing his ex-girlfriend's smiling face, and pleading for her to come back, just like in the lyrics of the song. The video features a recurring close up face shot of Yamin, in a black and white tone. Yamin is also shown in the studio recording the song throughout the video.
