Waikikamukau
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Waikikamukau, Why-key-car-moo-koh (pronounced as if saying "Why kick a moo-cow"), is an imaginary small rural town or locality in New Zealand. New Zealanders use the word for "any town" or to denote a particularly remote rural town. It has a similar connotation as the term Wop-wops, or Timbuktu for other English speakers.[1]
Waikikamukau is an example of how a bogus Māori word can be created out of an English phrase, and some idea of how Māori is commonly pronounced. Māori comedian Billy T. James created several others placenames in a similar way.
