[edit] Mission
- To ensure that cats appearing in the campus of Wah Yan College, Hong Kong can have a warm, safe and comfortable living environment.
- To spread the message of "Respect and Protect Life", to both Wahyanites and the general public.[2]
[edit] History
The precedings of the Wah Yan College Cats appeared in 1993,[3] when a cat (nicknamed Mr. M by the students) appeared in the campus of Wah Yan College, Hong Kong. It was then looked after by some students, teachers, and those who attended mass in the school chapel every Sunday. They formed a group of people who are devoted on carring after cats. At first, there was no house for cats; the people mainly fed the cats only.
However, problems on the cats' safety arose. Some students were seen beating the cats, and a cat was even crashed to death by a car in the campus. In 1999, the group successfully applied to become an official ECA organisation.[4] The new organisation possessed a cathouse in a basement in the college, thus eliminating the problems on the safety of the cats caused by their mobility.
Later the organisation successfully applied for some funds from the Quality Education Fund (project number 1999/1742)[5][6][7], mainly used for the construction of the current cathouse at Gordon Wu Hall.[8]
