W32

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The W32 worm is a computer virus, created by Andras A.K.A 'Craze One', of which there are a number of variants.

This worm is received and distributed through MSN Messenger. The original W32 worm was sent as a file with the subject line: "this looks like you". The variants identify themselves differently and may affect the computer in different ways. For example, the "W32.Chod.D" worm lowers the security settings and blocks access to several Web sites.

The worm disables Norton AntiVirus facilities and prevents any of the Symantec products that might be running on the affected computer from being used. Websites for antivirus information are also blocked; this is done by adding entries to the hosts file.

This worm only affects computers running the Microsoft Windows operating system.
