[edit] Discussion on the 44-45 campaign

Please see Talk:Western Front (World War II)#Discussion on the 44-45 campaign --Philip Baird Shearer 08:21, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Although I disagree with some minor point in the analysis, now that you have included references I think it is a neat edition to Wikipedia. But as it is an analysis expressing a POV, (unlike most of the rest of the article which is essentially a list of facts), over time, expect it to be modified with some very strange additional points of view, insisting on verifiable sources at least means that most of the more extreme hypothesis can be deleted quite quickly. --Philip Baird Shearer 19:43, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

I do not think it is unbalanced, but I am speaking from experience about citations (See articles like Allied war crimes, Bombing of Dresden in World War II, Genocide and Genocide in history to name but a few). I have found to my cost that with analysis, unless one cites every nuance, then those with a less than orthodox approach to a subject will exploit such article sections to add all sorts of analysis which they or a blog site consider valid. If you have a look at the Battle of Berlin you will see that only last week I have been retrofitting references onto text I wrote in October 2004, because in those days I did not tend to do this and it is much more difficult to go back and do it later.

On the other hand three articles were citations were added as we went along with two differing but constructive POVs were the Battle of Halbe, the Bombing of Pforzheim in World War II and a recent one the Bombing of Lübeck in World War II which I think because of the citations are for more usable articles than the Bombing of Braunschweig in World War II which was a copy of the German Wikipedia article which also had no citations.--Philip Baird Shearer 20:34, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Polish Second Army

Thanks for the infobox. I have expanded the article; can you add the infobox to the Polish First Army?-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk  21:31, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] RE: French Forces of the Interior

Hey, I went ahead and gave the article a new evaluation (it's now a B-class). Up until B-class, individual users can do this by themselves. If you want to take your article higher, you will have to nominate it for either a Good Article, an A-class article, or, the ultimate destination, a Featured Article.UberCryxic 16:52, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] World War II Mediation Case

A request for mediation has been filed with the Mediation Committee that lists you as a party. The Mediation Committee requires that all parties listed in a mediation must be notified of the mediation. Please review the request at Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/World War II, and indicate whether you agree or refuse to mediate. If you are unfamiliar with mediation, please refer to Wikipedia:Mediation. There are only seven days for everyone to agree, so please check as soon as possible.Krellis (Talk) 21:26, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] DYK

Updated DYK query On 15 March 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Bienwald, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

[edit] Any idea on French copyright rules

I just took a quick look at the ECPAD website [1]. I believe their images are generally copyrighted. Under Article 7 of their sales conditions (unfortunately only in French) they say:

Garanties légales L’ECPAD déclare disposer des droits d’exploitation sur les images objets des présentes et garantit leur provenance. Il garantit également le Client contre tout recours ou action que pourrait former le titulaire de droits de propriété sur les images offertes à la vente, à l’occasion de l’exercice de ses droits. Au cas où le produit livré présenterait un vice caché, et après retour de ce produit, l’ECPAD s’engage à le remplacer par un autre ou, à défaut, sauf cas de force majeure, de rembourser la somme versée.

That is they guarantee to have the license (droit d'exploitation) to all images and guarantee the origin of the images (which I assume to mean author(s) and/or origin) etc. I don't think any of these are free, the best might be to ask them (the bottom left link on the main page with the label En savoir plus...), I suppose they understand English. Though if you wish I can also ask myself.

And yes, the ECPAD is the French Ministry of Defense's media center.--Caranorn 20:43, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Just a note, don't trust the information on wikipedia's international copyright page 100% I'm not sure whether it was en.wikipedia or commons, but at either I found a few errors (duration of copyright for photos, not sure whether it was for France or Germany) that are unlikely to get changed (at least that's what i was told by an admin when I brought it up).--Caranorn 12:27, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] US VIII Corps

I noticed there was a link from the WWII page to the Civil War 8th Corps page. Looking into it there was also an 8th Corps active in WWI and the Spanich-American War and the subsequent occupation. JamesESJ 15:13, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
