The village of Vrba (English ~ willow tree) is known as the birthplace of the most prominent Slovene poet, France Prešeren. The house where he was born is now a museum dedicated to his life and work and is a typical example of a rural residence from the first half of the 19th century. The church of St. Mark is also notable in the village for its two gilded altars and remnants of frescoes from the 15th century. Vrba lies in the Upper Carniola region near the town of Žirovnica.
