Voxtrot is an indie pop rock outfit from Austin, Texas. The quintet is fronted by Ramesh Srivastava and also includes Jason Chronis, Mitch Calvert, Matt Simon, and Jared Van Fleet. Their first EP, a self-made CD-R, was produced in 2003 and sold at a few independent record stores in Austin.
Despite not having released a full-length album, Voxtrot has received praise and mention from online and print publications, such as SPIN.com and Pitchfork Media. For instance, SPIN.com noted that Raised By Wolves, the band's first official EP, is "...a stunning mini-collection of John Hughes-heyday paeans, twitchy pop, and surging, Strokes-y dancefloor fillers."[1] This praise is something of a rare feat considering it is based almost entirely on word-of-mouth from fans, bloggers and the strength of the band's live performances.
A five-song EP, Mothers, Sisters, Daughters & Wives, arrived in stores on April 4, 2006. Voxtrot also released the EP Your Biggest Fan on November 7 of the same year.
On December 12th 2006, Ramesh announced on his blog that they are working on a full length album[2]. The self-titled album will be released on May 22, 2007. The first single from Voxtrot is the album-closer "Blood Red Blood."
