Vox Verlix

Vox Verlix is a fictional character in the Edge Chronicles, a series of fantasy books created by Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell.
Vox was a bullying sub-professor of Sanctaphrax who was never happier than when throwing his weight around. He had in for Cowlquape Pentaphraxis in particular.
After the Mother Storm, he installed himself as the new Most High Academe's assistant. Later, with the help of his assistant, Amberfuce, he usurped the Most High Academe Cowlquape and took over New Sanctaphrax. During this time he constructed the Tower of Night and founded the Gurdians of Night, which later took over the Tower and forced Vox and the earth scholars to flee. He then installed himself as mayor of Undertown, and ordered the construction of the Great Mire Road, which, after stone-sickness struck, would be the only form of trade for the Undertowners. The Road was conquered by shrykes, and Undertown by goblins soon after. Now naught but a puppet, he created the dark maelstrom, which destroyed Undertown, the Tower of Night, and the Great Mire Road. He died when his kitchen maid drowned him with a bottle of oblivion and his palace caved in on him during this storm.
His name is possibly a reference to the latin quote vox populi, vox dei. This would be a subtle joke, as the quote preaches the peoples' rights while Vox is a brutal tyrant.
