Vospers Oak Villa A.F.C.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Vospers Oak Villa A.F.C. is a football club based in Plymouth, Devon, England.

Formerly known as Weston Mill Oak Villa, they first moved from local football to a more senior level in 1987 when they joined the South Western League under the simplified name of Oak Villa. After only two seasons, they returned to Plymouth local football and reverted to their earlier name.

In 1992 they became founder members of the Devon County League, where they still play today. They adopted their current name in 1998 when they dropped the geographical prefix (Weston Mill is a district of Plymouth), replacing it with the name of a well-known regional car dealer. Over the last ten years they have been one of the most consistent teams in the league with a string of top-6 finishes, yet finishing in either the league winner or runner-up spot has eluded them.

Because their current ground, The Mill lacks floodlights or other compulsory facilities, the club are not able to enter the FA Cup or FA Vase at present, but they did play in the FA Cup for five seasons after World War II without winning a match.
