Vorkuta uprising

The Vorkuta Uprising was a major uprising of the concentration camp inmates in Vorkuta in the summer of 1953, shortly after Joseph Stalin's death. The uprising was stopped by the NKVD and the Red Army. The rebellion resulted in the shutdown of many Vorkuta concentration camps in the 1950s.
