The von Bordelius family in 1611 received the Burghaus in Castrop. It was given in gratitude by Johann Sigismund Markgraf von Brandenburg to his educator and teacher Carl Friedrich von Bordelius.

Until 1766 members of the family worked as lawyers, pastors and mayors in Castrop.

Part of the family later lived in the Baltics.
