Original Volume 1 cover | ||
Volume 1 is CKY's debut album. The album has been released numerous times on different labels, with different artwork and titles.
The original album cover featured an artistic rendition of Budd Dwyer as he famously shot himself on live television. This was a last minute cover design for the first release of the album. The manager of the label, upon seeing the cover, demanded it be changed, and that the band change their name to something less offensive. The next, more well-known, cover features a picture of CKY's lead guitarist Chad I Ginsburg, who played bass for this album, performing his trademark "Bitch Toss". The "Bitch Toss" is where he throws his guitar around his back, where it goes 360 degrees on the strap and he catches it when it comes back. This cover has been printed with different color backgrounds.
Over the different releases, the band has been known as Camp Kill Yourself and Camp before finalizing on CKY. The title of the album has been Camp Kill Yourself, Volume 1, CKY and Camp Volume 1 before finalizing on Volume 1.
The album has been released by Teil Martin International, Volcom Entertainment and, most recently, Island Records. The band has parted ways with Island and officially announced that they signed with Roadrunner Records in December 2006. The band previously stated that once they found a new label, Volume 1 would be released again, although no official announcement has been made yet that Roadrunner will release the album again.
The song "What's It All For?" by Bazaar Royale, featured on the Cradle 2 the Grave soundtrack, samples "96 Quite Bitter Beings", the first track from this album.
Only 1 Single was released from this album, 96 Quite Bitter Beings in 1999.

[edit] Trivia
- The cover photo was taken during the 1999 Warped Tour.
- Most songs were written when the band was known as 'Oil', before Chad joined.
- 96 Quite Bitter Beings, arugably one of the bands most popular tracks, was penned one afternoon when Deron decided not to go to work.
- Rio Bravo was originally titled 'Rio Bravo Truckstop', but a design error on the first pressing had it labeled as 'Rio Bravo'. They decided to keep the new title.
- During the breakdown section of My Promiscuous Daughter, the voices in the background are those of Jess and Deron making fun of their old manager and talking about how Ryan Bruni doesn't even know they are making an album.
- Shippensburg, a b-side from Volume 2, was originally supposed to play after Sara's Mask, but it was removed, as it didn't fit well with the album.
- Originally, during the low hum after To All of You, you can hear Deron and Jess arguing in the studio, and Deron rips up the lyric sheets and throws them in Jess' face. Since the album turned out so well, they didn't think it fit in with it, so it was removed before it was pressed.
- The hidden tracks after To All of You are 'Rio Bravo Reprise' and 'Halfway House'.
- The drum beat after Rio Bravo is the teaser for Disengage the Simulator, the same drum beat that opened the song for Foreign Objects.
