Volkswagen Taro

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Volkswagen Taro was the product of a badge engineering venture between Toyota and Volkswagen.

Beginning in 1989, the Toyota-engineered Hi-Lux truck was built and sold under the name "Volkswagen Taro" in Europe.

The 2-wheel drive version was built at the Volkswagen factory in Hanover, Germany, while the 4-wheel drive versions were built at a Toyota factory in Japan.

This joint venture ended in 1996 due to low sales.

Future Pick-Up

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles division is now developing a robust pick-up to be released in 2008/2009 it will rival the Nissan Navara & Toyota Hi-Lux.

Expect the design to take cues from the recently released Volkswagen Crafter.

It will have a Single & Double Cab options as well as option of 2WD or 4WD & be squarely aimed at the European, South African, South American, and Asia Pacific markets.
