De Volewijckers is a football (soccer) club from Amsterdam, Netherlands. They are one of a number of Dutch clubs that were successful in post-war leagues before being forced to merge to cope with the popularity of the big teams such as Ajax and Feyenoord. Mergers and takeovers mean that today most football fans outside Holland are not aware of the important role played by clubs such as De Volewijckers.
[edit] History
In 1972 the club fused with Blauw Wit and DWS to form FC Amsterdam. The club won the Dutch Eredivisie in 1944. De Volewijckers continued as an amateur club, that still exist today.
