Volcano High (Korean: 화산고, Hwasango) is a 2001 South Korean film in the same vein as Tenjho Tenge. It revolves around a troublemaking high school student who finds himself transferred to the last school that will take him, the prestigious Volcano High, an institution whose students display an incredible talent in martial arts, with a few demonstrating even more mysterious psychic powers, notably Jang Ryang (played by Kim Suro) and Kim Kyung-soo (played by Jang Hyuk). The duo later fight with Mar Ma (played by Huh Jun-ho) and his subordinates, killing all of them as well as the school vice principal, indirectly, out of fright.
The film was released in a 120-minute Korean version and a 100-minute "International Version". In 2003 MTV aired a vastly altered redub and reedit of the film featuring the voices of prominent hip-hop artists Snoop Dogg, OutKast, Method Man and Mya. 40 minutes of footage was also excised from this version.
This MTV altered version of the film was aired only one time on the network after promptly being decryed by fans as being a blatant attempt to rip off the popular TV series known as "Kung Faux" that was already airing on MTV's rival network music channel known as "FUSE".
Rumors have circulated that a confidential multi-million dollar class action lawsuit was settled between the producers of the "Kung Faux" franchise, MTV, and the people behind the copyright offending MTV production of Volcano High after its immediate banishment from the TV airwaves.
There is also a manga set before the movie called "Volcano High Prelude". It hasn't been released in the USA.
