Volatility (physics)

Volatility in physics is a measure of the speed at which a chemical element or chemical compound evaporates. Higher volatility indicates faster evaporation and a lower volatility means it will evaporate slower.
Although usually applying to liquids, volatility can apply to solid materials such as dry ice (solid Carbon Dioxide) and ammonium chloride, which can change directly from solid to vapor without becoming liquid, also known as sublimation.
