The population is 30,016 inhabitants according to the 2002 census, with an ethnical composition of 97.6% Romanians, 1.7% Rroma and 0.7% of other ethnic groups.

With 2.2% of the populate of Chinese ethnicity, Voluntari has one of the largest proportions of Chinese people in Romania. The Roma minority, which makes up 20%, is also by far higher than the national average.
