[edit] Song information

"Voice Inside My Head" was written by all three band members (Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire and Emily Robison) alongside the renowed songwriter Linda Perry. It tells the story of a woman wondering what her life would be like if she and a former boyfriend (possibly her "true love") had not broken-up ten years before.

[edit] Comments about the song by band members

This is what band members Martie and Natalie commented about the writing process of the song [1]:

  • Martie: "This one was hard for Natalie. It took a long time for her to feel like she could sing this song and really own it. It's a very heavy subject matter and it took us a while to get it right."
  • Natalie: "It’s one that didn’t come together until the very end. Rick was instrumental in making the sound really work for this song."
