A Vodka Red Bull, known by a wide variety of names, is a cocktail made by mixing vodka and Red Bull. It is popular in bars and clubs around Europe, the U.S., Asia and Australia. The vodka Red Bull ratio varies widely, but is usually around 1:5. In some places it is customary to serve an entire can with a single shot of vodka, in others a can may be split between several glasses, each containing several shots of vodka. The Red Bull dominates so that the flavor of the alcohol is not too strong.
The vodka/Red Bull is especially popular in clubs, as it can provide the energy for dancing into the early hours of the morning. It also allows the drinker to become intoxicated without getting tired. Red Bull claims that the taurine contained in Red Bull helps in the absorption of caffeine, but there is no evidence of this.
Vodka/Red Bull is considered expensive when ordered at a club or bar in America, with many clubs charging in excess of $10 for a serving. This is not the case in all countries; for example, in Britain it usually costs between £1 and £3 ($1.80–$5.40).
Some people consider this drink dangerous, since alcohol is a depressant while the caffeine in Red Bull is a stimulant. Because of this it may put strain on the heart. Two people died in Sweden after drinking vodka Red Bull. However, the coroner did not find any direct link between the drink and the deaths.

[edit] Preparation notes
As with all cocktails, various modes of preparation exist, varying according to the recipes and styles of particular bars or mixologists. Most common varieties just adjust the amount of Vodka and/or Red Bull put into the drink, or the size of the drink. Standard preparation, though, can be done in 3 simple steps:
- Pour a cold can (usually a slim 250 ml can) of Red Bull into highball glass, (with or without ice in it)
- Pour a shot of cold Vodka into shot glass, and then drop the entire shot filled with Vodka into a Highball glass filled with Red Bull.
[edit] Variant drinks
- DSVR (Double Shot Vodka Red Bull) - A glass of Red Bull with two shots of Vodka
- VRB (Vodka Red Bull Backwards) - A glass of Vodka with a shot of Red Bull poured in
[edit] Origin
- A gentlemen from Malden, MA known as Gibby has been credited with bringing the Red Bull & Vodka to the US in the Spring of 2000. After a visit to Ireland, Gibby apparently brought a few cases of Red Bull back to the States and started mixing the drink for friends. Shortly after, the drink became a staple of the local bar scene.
