[edit] How to use
For unique identification of a volcano or volcanic feature on Earth (currently >1550 detailed entries in the Global Volcanism Program database).
[edit] Sample use
Volcano Number (VNUM) 0803-001
if coded as: {{VNUM|0803-001}} renders as: VNUM 0803-001
[edit] Caution
Many Volcano Numbers end on an "equals" sign ("="), for example the volcanic island of Vulcano (Italy) has the VNUM 0101-05=, ending on an "=". If the above normal parameter syntax would be used, the "=" would be understood as an operator, not a parameter.
For that example, the explicit way of writing the parameter would be (by adding "1=" before the argument): {{VNUM|1=0101-05=}}, which correctly renders as: VNUM 0101-05=.
Note that this explicit expression is not neccessary if the argument (i.e., the VNUM) contains or starts with an "=".
[edit] How to find VNUM codes
As explained on the VNUM article, the Smithsonian Institution has by mandate from IAVCEI assigned each volcano in the world a unique identifier code, the Volcano Number, or VNUM. Go to their web page to find your volcano, take its number from there, and use it on Wikipedia's article about that volcano in the [Template:VNUM|VNUM template].
