Vitreous quartzite

Vitreous quartzite is rock type primarily made up of fine-grained quartz sand metamorphosed to a glassy brittle light colored siliceous unit.

One of three rock type definitions that were first applied in the Coeur d’Alene Mining District to the Revett Formation (White and Wilson, 1982) but have since been used in describing other Belt formations as well.
