Vishnu Prabhakar

Vishnu Prabhakar (विष्णु प्रभाकर) (b. 1912) is a Hindi writer. He has written several short stories, novels, plays and travelogues to his credit.

[edit] Early life
He was born in Mirapur village of Muzaffarnagar district in Uttar Pradesh. He completed his metric from Hisar in 1929 and joined government service. Even with his work he pursued his interest in literature. He also joined a Natak company in Hissar. He wrote in 1939, Hatya Ke Baad, his first play. For some time he took writing as his full time career. After independence he worked as a drama director in Aakashvani, New Delhi. He came into news when in 2005 he threatened to return his Padma Bhushan award after he allegedly had to face misconduct at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

He won Padma Bhushan and the Sahitya Akademi Award for his novel Ardhanarishvara (The Androgynous God or Shiva).
