Viscount Carleton of Clare

The title of Baron Carleton of Amner was created in the Peerage of Ireland on 17 September 1789 for Hugh Carleton, who was created Viscount Carleton of Clare on 21 November 1797. Hugh Carleton had been Solicitor General for Ireland in 1779 and Lord Chief Justice of the Common Pleas for Ireland from 1787 to 1800. In 1787 he was invested as member of the Privy Council of Ireland. On his death in 1826, both title became extinct.
