Talk:Viscount Stansgate

The title was not destroyed and will reappear when Tony Benn dies, presumably being inherited by his son Hilary Benn.

Is there some reason why Stephen Benn, as eldest son, wouldn't inherit the title? --rbrwr
no, my mistake Morwen 21:20, 8 Nov 2003 (UTC)

In my defence, a letter to a recent New Statesman by a lawyer or somesuch made exactly the same mistake. ;) Morwen 23:48, 26 Nov 2003 (UTC)

If Stephen Benn predeceases his father he will not inherit the title - I presume it will pass to Stephen's eldest son if he has one. Timrollpickering 15:59, 9 Jan 2004 (UTC)

... and, indeed, if not, to Hillary Benn and his children (though I imagine that he too would disclaim the title, as he's got a seemingly bright future ahead of him in government), and then to Joshua Benn and his offspring, and finally to Melissa Benn and her postdecessors, after which the title would become extinct, probably.

He would have has no need to disclaim the title anymore, due to the reform of the House of Lords. Morwen 21:23, Jan 9, 2004 (UTC)
